In Bulgaria, some of the modern Sarakatsani, members of a community that was for centuries involved in cattle breeding throughout the Balkans, earn their living by producing plastic bottles. The traditional way of life changed during the socialist period and they now only remember the shepherds' life and its organization, followed by collectivization and repressions.
