Our world can be shaken, crisis can be around and within us. Thinking things over sometimes cannot solve the problems that keep us awake. What is there, beyond rational thinking? This question brought the pretty rational filmmaker Laura to Ilka Sventja, who works as an “ancestor witch” (Ahnenhexe). Through a personal crisis, Ilka Sventja had a magical experience and, with nature as a guideline, she got into her work field as a witch. Her world full of rituals unfolds a meditative journey in this film, bouncing back and forth between rationality and letting loose. What is true to us, what we see or what we feel?

Laura Heinig (1988) is trained in Cultural Studies in Frankfurt (Oder) and Santiago de Chile. Later, she left Radboud University in the Netherlands with a MA degree in Anthropology. In 2015 she co-founded a solidarity collective. Since 2019 she studies at Filmacademy Baden-Württemberg with a focus on documentary directing.
