In their travels, each Roma tribe had its leader. When the Roma settled, the leaders have retained their positions. Regardless of the title they were given – “Romani prince”, “Romani vizier”, or “Romani duke”– their duties were always the same: to preserve order in the community, resolve disputes, and – most importantly – to mediate between the Romani community and the new environment. The institution of Romani princes in Vojvodina lasted until the 20th century. At the beginning of this century, the local governments have set up coordinator for Roma matters. The film follows this transition and presents the last Romani princes of Vojvodina, as well as those who perform those duties today.
