Marrying the son of a wealthy village landlord seems, at first glance, like the fulfillment of a poor young day laborer’s dreams. But marriage to a young man burdened with a shameful secret – one that, in the eyes of the village, makes him a hostage to his sickeningly traditional and pious mother and his unscrupulous yet charming father– becomes for the day laborer a trap of lies, dark desire, traditionalism, and deviant piety. When she realizes that she was chosen only to complete the picture of their “holy family,” the situation slips out of control and the picture turns into a mockery.
Vlatka Vorkapić is the screenwriter and director of a number of award-winning documentary and fiction TV series. She has directed more than thirty documentary films, two short fiction films, several award-winning theatre productions, and the feature film Sonja and the Bull, for whose screenplay she received the “Golden Arena”in Pula.
