“Zhgony”, “matrai”, “pimokaty” - those who rolled valenki (felt boots) all over Russia called themselves differently. They communicated in their secret languages and kept their craft a secret. Today, there are only a few masters who know and use not only the original production technology, but are also the latest carriers of the jargon of artisans, of which the famous researcher of Russian language Vladimir Dahl wrote a century and a half ago. The authors of the film tried to eavesdrop on the secret dialects and spy on the secrets of the skill of the remaining artisans, who to this day make zhgonyat and turyzhat (make felt boots) in their small stirni (workshops). The film “Valenki RU” is an ode to the hands and manual labor.
