In Croatia, on the islands of Cres and Lošinj, there are people capable of interpreting the old traditional song. This is due both to "reserve areas" intended for the maintenance and promotion of traditional music and dance (folk groups of Nerezine and Orlec), and to elderly people who, having acquired these musical skills in their youth, practiced them for lifetime. What is the state of health of this way of singing?

Paolo Vinati studied ethnomusicology at the University of Bologna. He has conducted fieldwork in Austria, Montenegro, Croatia, Lombardy, Trentino and in the Ladin valleys of South Tyrol. Several books, CDs and videodocumentary has been published all about his works.
