A feature-length documentary about contemporary slave labor focusing on the Brazilian Amazon. Rural workers enslaved on deforestation fronts in northern Brazil and abolitionists of different strands were heard. Although slave-like working conditions are considered a criminal offense under the Brazilian Criminal Law, servitude has been practiced in Brazil for five centuries. The Áurea Law abolished classical slavery, which gave trade and property rights of the enslaved, but did not transform labor relations, which lingered. With narration by Negra Li, the documentary is a resounding record of one of the greatest ills in Brazil.
