Karelians is a Baltic-Finnic ethnic group in Karelia region. Since the 13th century, Karelians often fought against Novgorod and Sweden. Novgorod made the attempts to convert Karelians to Orthodoxy. Sweden brought Karelians to Catholic Church first and later to Lutheranism. One part of Karelians didn't want any religious changes, neither Orthodoxy nor Lutheranism, so they had to run away to Volga River. They were later invited by the Russian Tsar to settle in the lands near the river. This short documentary film is about one Orthodox group of people in Russia – Tver Karelians. Five centuries have gone. What is the actual condition of the people?
